Review: Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins

Title: Lola and The Boy Next Door
Author: Stephanie Perkins
Publisher: Penguin
Release Date: 1st October 2011
Source: Library
Rating: 3.5 out of 5

Description: Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn't believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit-more sparkly, more fun, more wild-the better. But even though Lola's style is outrageous, she's a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighbourhood. When Cricket-a gifted inventor-steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

Lola and The Boy Next Door was a cute fun read with a one of a kind protagonist and a loving childhood romance.  With unique characters, a quaint setting and plenty of romantic tension it was the perfect book for the mood I was in. This was my first book by Stephanie Perkins. Having heard so much about her contemporary stories, I was looking forward to a great read. Although this book was enjoyable, it didn’t capture my attention like I expected it to. Lola and the Boy Next Door is not just a sweet romantic fare. In actuality it’s about a young lady growing up and figuring out not only who she is but also what she wants.

Perkins has a great voice. Her writing is very easy to get into with heaps of humour, sarcasm and emotion. Lola has always been in love with her next-door neighbour Cricket. However circumstances bring their budding friendship to a stop.  Years later, Cricket returns and now Lola has to confront the unresolved feelings she has for the boy next door. However Cricket is not the only problem Lola has to deal with. There is plenty of family drama, boyfriend trouble and an identity crisis.

When we first meet Lola she is in a good place. She has a boyfriend she loves, good friends and plenty of individuality.  Her only problem is the fact that her dads hate her boyfriend. Crickets reappearance complicates her life and forces her to figure out what she wants. Lola was a complicated character. She had a lot to figure out and made a lot of mistakes especially regarding her older boyfriend Max. I didn’t enjoy how she kept lying about her relationship with Cricket and the way she kept blurring the lines of friendship with him, despite being in another relationship. Perkins incorporates great character development and despite all of her mistakes Lola learns a valuable lesson about who she is and who is the right person for her. She learns from her mistakes and goes to great lengths to earn back the trust that she lost. She develops into a stronger individual by the end.

Review: The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater

Title: The Dream Thieves
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Publisher: Scholastic
Release Date: 17th September 2013
Source: Bought
Rating: 5 out of 5

Description: Now that the ley lines around Cabeswater have been woken, nothing for Ronan, Gansey, Blue, and Adam will be the same. Ronan, for one, is falling more and more deeply into his dreams, and his dreams are intruding more and more into waking life. Meanwhile, some very sinister people are looking for some of the same pieces of the Cabeswater puzzle that Gansey is after

The Dream Thieves is a book that will make you believe in magic because if nothing else the characters and the story are defiantly magical. It’s so hard to describe how much I adore this book. It’s the perfect sequel that contains kissing, magic, dead kings and dreams. What more could you ask for? I am always greedy when it comes to this series because I can never have enough. I always want more stories about the Raven Boys and Blue.  The Dream Thieves is a compelling sequel made up of many moments that are heartbreaking, touching and stunning.

The Dream Thieves unravels many more secrets hidden in Henrietta. Maggie Stiefvater balances the plot masterfully with character development.  The ley lines and Glendower are still a major part of the story, however, it is the characters that standout in this book. Gansey, Adam, Noah, Ronan and Blue are still looking for the sleeping king Glendower. The quest unearths hidden secrets, sheds light on the past and attracts a certain element of danger.  The main focus of The Dream Thieves is Ronan Lynch. We get to learn a lot more about Ronan and his family. In The Raven Boys we only got to scratch the surface of who Ronan was. In this book we get to see a different side of him. We finally find out who Ronan is, what haunts him and the secrets he carries. Ronan is such a fascinating character who struggles with his demons day in and day out.

Stiefvater introduces new characters into this story.  Kavinsky and the Grey Man never distract from the story being told, but enhance it. They were each given their own arcs and added another layer into the story.  Kavinsky was a great foil to Ronan. Adam’s sacrifice is also explored. Adam is a very different character than he was in The Raven Boys.  His sacrifice has a profound effect on him and affects his relationships with Gansey and Blue. His situation causes a lot of conflict for him and Gansey. Gansey has to deal with holding everything together but despite his best efforts things don’t seem to be going his way. Blue also has a strong presence in this book. Her relationship with each of the Raven Boys is distinctive. There was a certain couple that I was beyond happy to read about but at the same time their story was heartbreaking.  Calla, Persephone and Maura play a larger role in helping Blue and boys in their quest. They play an important role in looking out for these teens.

Cover Reveal: One & Only by Viv Daniels

I'm so excited to share with everyone the cover for One & Only by Viv Daniels.  Viv Daniels is a pseudonym for the one and only Diana Peterfreund. I had the fortune of reading For Darkness Shows the Stars earlier in the year and I absolutely fell in love with the book and the writing.  Since then I have been eagerly waiting for its companion Across A Star Swept Sea. So when I found out that Diana was writing a new romantic novel under a different name I was so excited. I can’t wait to read One & Only, which comes out on the 8th of November. Be sure to add it to your goodreads and keep an eye out for it.

So without further ado here's the cover for One & Only. The cover was designed by Okay Creations. Don't you just love the colours used. The blue and the green really make the cover stand out.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

One night they can't forget...

Tess McMann lives her life according to the secrets she's sworn to keep: the father who won't acknowledge her, the sister who doesn't know she exists, and the mother who's content playing mistress to a prominent businessman. When she meets the distractingly cute Dylan Kingsley at a prestigious summer program and falls in love, Tess allows herself to imagine a life beyond these secrets.  But when summer ends, so does their relationship -- Dylan heads off to Canton College while Tess enrolls at the state university.

One love they can't ignore...

Two years later, a scholarship brings Tess to Canton and back into Dylan's life.  Their attraction is as strong as ever, but Dylan has a girlfriend…who also happens to be Tess's legitimate half-sister.  Tess refuses to follow in her mother's footsteps, which leaves her only one choice: break the rules she’s always followed, or allow Dylan to slip away for a second time.

...And only one chance to get things right.

Review: Antigoddess by Kendare Blake

Title: Antigoddess
Author: Kendare Blake
Publisher: Orchard Books
Release Date: 10th September 2013
Source: Bought
Rating: 4 out of 5

Description: He was Apollo, the sun, and he'd burn down anything that tried to hurt her... Cassandra and Aidan are just your average high-school couple. Or so Cassandra believes. Blissfully unaware that she was once a powerful prophetess, Cassandra doesn't even know thats god exist... Until now. Because the gods are dying - and Cassandra could hold the answer to their survival. But Aidan has a secret of his own. He is really Apollo, god of the sun, and he will do anything to protect the girl he loves from the danger that's coming for her. Even if it means war against his immortal family... Sexy, irresistible characters; romantic and mythological intrigue; relentless action and suspense

Antigoddess is a compelling take on the Greek Gods. It’s gory and dark with sharp wit and snappy dialogue.  It’s the gods, as you have never seen them before.  If I have learnt one thing from this book, it would be to not piss them off. The entire family is tearing it self apart from the inside. They are in the midst of a war and its tremendously fun watching them bicker, bitch, moan and attempt to get their way. If you love Greek mythology then this is a perfect book, with a fresh premise, tight writing and an unexpected ending. It’s a haunting tale of survival, family and the mistakes of the past.

The story pulled me in right from the first page. You can immediately tell that this isn’t your average story and that something big is happening.  There is never a dull moment. Kendare Blake’s writing is vivid and expressive. The imagery is bloody and gory. Throughout the book there is a great undercurrent of humour that is sharp and witty. The twilight of the gods is approaching, meaning that their death is imminent. The only way for them to survive is to kill each other and find Cassandra. Cassandra is a normal teenage girl apart from her ability to see the future. Now the gods are after her and Aiden her boyfriend will do anything to protect her. Alliances are formed, battles are fought and the past is repeating it self.  The story depicts a highly modernised version of the god. These are gods that live in our world, blend into its surrounds and know pop culture references. I immensely enjoyed reading about these modern gods.

The gods are not how you would expect them to be. They are frighting in the truest sense of the word.  They are not the heroes of this story nor are they the villains. They have various amoral and ambiguous areas.  They are willing to do anything for their survival, and don’t care about the mortals in their path. Hermes is sometimes a coward. Athena is unrelenting. Apollo is a bit stupid. Aphrodite is a child and according to everyone, Poseidon is a Prick. Even though the gods are ruthless, their story still evokes sympathy. You can understand where they are coming from and why they do what they do, especially Athena. Athena and Hermes were my favourite characters despite their shortcomings. I wanted them to succeed in their mission. Athena struggles with who she was in the past and who she is now. She is a character that does shocking things but there is a redeemable quality about her.

The family aspects of this story are layered and complicated. These gods haven’t seen each other in hundreds of years and they do not particularly care about each other. However deep down Blake manages to create subtle family ties and alliances. They do care about each other despite their actions; you just need to look hard enough to see it. The mortals in this story, Cassandra, Henry and Andi also play important roles and are not to be overlooked. I have a feeling that they will play a more important role in future books. Cassandra was the hardest character to get to know. We were just dropped into her story and there were many things about her background that were not explained. As the story moves forward she emerges as a stronger force but I still believe we have only scratched the surface with her. Her relationship with Aiden was something I had a bit of trouble getting my head around. When we meet them they are already in a solid relationship.  I wish I could have seen a bit more about their courtship so I could understand their relationship and sacrifices better.

The ending was very surprising. I wasn’t expecting Blake to take the story there and present a heartbreaking loss of all of its players, but I really enjoyed the outcome. It means that this war isn’t over and it’s going to get worse. I can’t wait for the next book.

Review: Deception by C.J Redwine

Title: Deception
Author: C. J Redwine
Publisher: Atom
Release Date: 5th September 2013
Source: Bought
Rating: 4 out of 5

Description: Baalboden has been ravaged. The brutal Commander's whereabouts are unknown. And Rachel, grief stricken over her father's death, needs Logan more than ever. With their ragged group of survivors struggling to forge a future, it's up to Logan to become the leader they need—with Rachel by his side. Under constant threat from rival Carrington's army, who is after the device that controls the Cursed One, the group decides to abandon the ruins of their home and take their chances in the Wasteland.
But soon their problems intensify tenfold: someone—possibly inside their ranks—is sabotaging the survivors, picking them off one by one. The chaos and uncertainty of each day puts unbearable strain on Rachel and Logan, and it isn't long before they feel their love splintering. Even worse, as it becomes clear that the Commander will stop at nothing to destroy them, the band of survivors begins to question whether the price of freedom may be too great—and whether, hunted by their enemies and the murderous traitor in their midst, they can make it out of the Wasteland alive.

Deception is an emotional read that delves into the condition of the human spirit. Deception directly deals with the consequences and decisions made in Defiance. Both, Rachel and Logan made devastating choices and now they have to pay the price for their decisions in addition to dealing with the Commanders cruel ways. Deception in a nutshell is about tough choices, grief, loss and learning to live in the wake of devastating events.  C.J Redwine concentrates on the inner struggle of the characters delivering an emotive book.

Deception introduces a whole host of distressing problems for Rachel and Logan. After Baalboden burned down Logan in now in charge of the survivors.  To survive Rachel, Logan and the survivors need to leave Baalboden and head north to another City State across the wasteland before the Commander and his army destroy them.  However their journey is rife with danger at every turn. The Commander is not the only person that is hunting the survivors, someone else is out for justice and people are dying as a result.  We only get to see glimpses of the Commander in this book as there is a new evil introduced.  The villain of this book is really easy to predict but it is still a haunting betrayal. Together Logan and Rachel need to get everyone to safety, stop a killer and evade an army.

Deception is an entirely different book from Defiance. The characters are not the same. They have been through hell and back and now have to deal with not only their inner conscience but with those hunting and questioning their motive. There is less action and the story is slower paced, but this allows the majority of the books attention to be about the characters. In some books, the characters are not given enough time to deal with their grief/pain/suffering because If they did they wouldn’t be able to function and sit in a corner rocking all day. It wouldn’t necessarily make for a good story, but in Deception the inner struggles of the characters makes the story more compelling and realistic given the events. Redwine allows these characters to slowly unwind and deal with all of the pain and suffering that has been dealt to them. She takes these characters to very dark places before she builds them back up.  It makes your heart break, especially for Rachel.  The book discusses the human condition and how to still be the person you are despite everything. How do you find yourself? There were a few moments that the characters inner struggles were overdone a bit, but ultimately these characters make up the heart of this story.

Review: United We Spy by Ally Carter

Title: United We Spy
Author: Ally Carter
Publisher: Hachette Australia
Release Date: 10th September 2013
Source: Bought
Rating: 4 out of 5

Description: Cammie Morgan has lost her father and her memory, but in the heart-pounding conclusion to the best-selling Gallagher Girls series, she finds her greatest mission yet. Cammie and her friends finally know why the terrorist organization called the Circle of Cavan has been hunting her. Now the spy girls and Zach must track down the Circle’s elite members to stop them before they implement a master plan that will change Cammie—and her country—forever.

United We Spy is a satisfying conclusion to the Gallagher Girl’s series by Ally Carter.  It’s the final mission to take down the Circle of Cavern. Cammie, Zach, Macey, Bex and Liz are back for their most important adventure yet. There’s plenty of action, breaking and entering and exploding things.  Above all, the elements of friendship, loyalty and bravery that are the foundation for this series are also front and centre. This is one emotional finale that sees all of the characters grown up, ready to face the world.

After all the mayhem the Circle of Cavern has caused, Cammie and the gang are trying to track and capture them in an attempt to protect those who they love. However, the Circle has put into motion something big that will have disastrous consequences. Its up to Cammie to stop the Circle before it’s too late.  United We Spy wraps up all the storylines and ends with a very touching and satisfying finale. Carter gives us enough to know where the characters are headed but left the ending open. United We Spy also has plenty of humour and romance incorporated into the story. My only complaint was that we didn’t get to see the Gallagher Academy as much in this book as the story took the characters away from school.  Even though we don’t get to see the school as much, the Gallagher Academy still plays a significant part in the epic climax.

The words I would use to describe the Gallagher Girls series are unrealistic realistic fiction. It’s how Ally Carter has described the series in the past and it’s a fitting description.  Sure, sometimes the plot is a bit far-fetched but I think it serves as a good reminder. A reminder that sometimes the impossible is possible. Its nice to believe that there is a world in which exceptional individuals can achieve the impossible. United We Spy reinforces this message, especially with the girls graduating and facing a future away from the school. Cammie struggles with the future. It’s a common feeling that most teenagers go though and Carter handles it well by making it relatable. United We Spy also carries the message that everything will be okay because you can achieve anything and be anything you want. Liz’s graduation speech was touching and a beautiful moment that cemented this message. Plus these books are tons of fun. Who wouldn’t want to go to spy school? I know I would.

Review: Shades of Earth by Beth Revis

Title: Shades of Earth
Author: Beth Revis
Publisher: Razorbill
Release Date: 2nd May 2013
Source: Bought
Rating: 5 out of 5

Description: Amy and Elder have finally left the oppressive walls of the spaceship Godspeed behind. They're ready to start life afresh--to build a home--on Centauri-Earth, the planet that Amy has traveled 25 trillion miles across the universe to experience. But this new Earth isn't the paradise that Amy had been hoping for. Amy and Elder must race to uncover who--or what--else is out there if they are to have any hope of saving their struggling colony and building a future together. But each new discovery brings more danger. And if their colony collapses then everything they have sacrificed--friends, family, life on Earth--will have been meaningless...

The colonisation of a new planet is bound to be full of challenges.  Who knew it could be downright disastrous, filled with pain, suffering and tension. Shades of Earth is downright torturous for both its characters and the reader. Beth Revis managed to shatter my heart into a thousand pieces and put them back together very slowly. I don’t think I will ever think of space adventures the same way again. I absolutely adore the Across the Universe Series. It’s a series that keeps me on my toes and always keeping giving.  The story constantly surprises me and the twists and turns keep coming. The detail and depth Revis has incorporated into this story is amazing. Shades of Earth is a brilly read. It’s intense and filled with even more murder and mysteries than the last two books combined. Revis definitely ups the ante.

The last book in the Across the Universe trilogy is steeped in more mysteries that link back to the spaceship Godspeed. Centauri Earth is not what I expected it to be and it held secrets of its own. I loved the unpredictability of this story and the brutal twists it deals its characters. Amy and Elder leave Godspeed with the frozens and the shipborns to land on the new plant. Once they land the military and the shipborns have to make a home for themselves on the new plant. But it’s not easy. As soon as they land, new creatures attack them and people are being murdered.  The planet is not what anyone expected. Amy and Elder need to find answers before they all end up dead. There was a part of me while I was reading the trilogy that never expected Godspeed to land. So I was very happy that we got to explore the new planet along with the new colony. The plot is just as fast as previous instalments. There is always something vital happening and every single scene Revis writes is filled with either action, suspense or emotion.  There were moments in this book where I was exclaiming: what the hell is going on? The book just pulled me in with its tension filled story.

I am so happy that we get to have this book released here in Australia.

EXCERPT:

I drove across the US of A, left my family without an explanation, and now I’m either too late or there was never anything here to begin with. F my life. Rearing back, I kick the door as hard as I can. Then I wrap both hands around the door handles and release a noise like a wild banshee as I pull back.

The doors swing open.

I’m not sure whether to celebrate or freak out. I decide to do neither and slip inside. As I walk around the inside of the museum, listening to the sound of my footsteps echo off the walls, I imagine I am moments from death. It’s sad, I think, that this is all it takes to break my sanity.

Two curling flights of stairs bow out from the first-floor lobby, and red and white tiles cover the floors. There are gilded picture frames everywhere. So many that I think the placement of the frames — and not their contents — is the real art. Everything, absolutely everything, smells like wax. I mosey up to an abandoned reception desk and leaf through the glossy pamphlets littering the surface. I hold one of the pamphlets up to my nose. Yep, wax.

I glance around, having no idea what to look for. Will there be a sign like at school registration? Students with last names A–K this way?

On my left, I notice a long hallway dotted with doors on either side. Nothing looks particularly unusual. But when I glance to my right, I spot something. There’s a door at the end of the corridor that has a sliver of light glowing beneath it. I’m sure it’s just an administration office, one where someone forgot to flip the switch. But I’ve got nothing better to go on, so I head toward it.

I pause outside the door, wondering if I’m about to get busted for B&E. Then I turn the handle and find myself at the top of another winding staircase.

You’ve got to be kidding me. What is this, Dracula’s bachelor pad?

I’ve watched a lot of scary movies, and I’ve learned nothing good is ever at the bottom of a winding staircase. Pulling in a breath and preparing myself to be eaten alive, I head down. My shoes are loud against the steps. So loud, I imagine they are intentionally trying to get me killed.

When I reach the final few stairs, I ready myself to look around the bend. My heart is racing, and I secretly pray the worst I encounter is an angry janitor with a wax addiction. I turn the bend — and my eyes nearly pop from my skull.

The enormous room is perfectly circular, dotted with candles to light the space. Surrounding the walls are rows and rows of dark, rich mahogany bookshelves. A large round table stands in the center of the red-and-white-tiled floor. The room is spectacular, but what it holds is so jarring, my ears ring.

Across every shelf, every spot on the table, every tile on the floor — are small sculptures of hands. And in a few of those hands — the ones still performing their duty — are eggs. There are only nine eggs left, it seems. For a moment, I imagine how amazing it would have been to see each hand holding an egg, but it’s enough just to see these nine.

The eggs seem to dance in the candle flame, and as I move closer, I realize why. The surfaces of the eggs are almost iridescent, their colors changing depending on how you look at them. They are different sizes, too; some as big as a basketball, others as small as a peach.

I don’t need the device in my pocket to tell me what my gut already knows.

This is the Pandora Selection Process.

Top Ten Tuesday : Books for TV

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish.

I always enjoy reading the Top Ten Tuesdays lists people write, so today I decided to participate. The topic for this weeks Top Ten Tuesday is books you would like to see as a movie or TV series. I decided to go with TV series over movies because there are plenty of books out there being made into movies and I think that some books are better suited to a television show. With the medium of television, you can showcase the intricacies of a book better.

The Soul Screamers has the potential to be as big as The Vampire Diaries, maybe even better. It has a whole vast array of supernatural creatures you can explore plus a girl who falls in love with both the Hudson brothers. The relationships in this book are also very complicated allowing for plenty for drama.

Rachel Hawkins has said that someone is working on a script for a Hex Hall TV pilot. I really hope that it works out and we get to see this series on TV. A boarding school filled with witches and secrets. Imagine the stories you could tell set at Hex Hall. Magic and hormones are a potent mix .

Rory in London, talking to Ghosts and helping the Shades in their investigations. What could be better than that? I would love to see the secret ghost police of london and their many adventures. All of the characters in these books are so distinct and wonderful. Plus, I would love to meet all of Rory's extended family. Oh, the stories they would tell.

Clive Cusslers's book The Sahara was made into a movie a few years ago. I personally would love to see the Oregon files made into a TV show. It could be the next spy/procedural series. A top secret ship filled with agents and soldiers, whose mission it is to save the world. It would be so cool to see the Chairman's chair and all the cool technology that goes into making the Oregon what it is.

The Gallegher Girls has been optioned as a movie. Either way I would love to see this series as a movie or a TV show. Its another series set in a boarding school with super smart spy girls. I would love to see their training and missions come to life.

There is so much that happens in Across the Universe. There is murder, politics and the colonisation of a new plant. Beth Revis has built in so many layer into her series that need to be explored on the screen.  We need more TV shows about adventures in space. It would be a perfect companion to the TV show The 100, which is premiering soon.

This would be a great historical show about all things occult. You get to have great costumes and sets. The Diviners is such a big book, and with a TV show format you could explore more of the characters and the many story lines.

The crime aspect in these books is so wonderful. I would love to see Cassel and the curse workers on TV.

This book has such a great and unique premise. The sets would be so lavish and beautiful. I would love to see the narrows and the archive come to life. Mac and Wesley's adventures with the dead have so much potential. I can imagine this show as a case of the week, where we see the life and the resulting capture of one of Histories.

What books would you like to see as a TV show or movie?

Review: The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

Title: The Bone Season
Author: Samantha Shannon
Publisher: Bloomsbury
Release Date: 20th August 2013
Source: Bought
Rating: 4 out of 5

Description: The year is 2059. Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man named Jaxon Hall. Her job: to scout for information by breaking into people’s minds. For Paige is a dreamwalker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing. It is raining the day her life changes for ever. Attacked, drugged and kidnapped, Paige is transported to Oxford – a city kept secret for two hundred years, controlled by a powerful, otherworldly race. Paige is assigned to Warden, a Rephaite with mysterious motives. He is her master. Her trainer. Her natural enemy. But if Paige wants to regain her freedom she must allow herself to be nurtured in this prison where she is meant to die.

The Bone Season By Samantha Shannon has been getting plenty of hype. So much so that Samantha Shannon has been called the next J.K Rowling.  When you read this book, you can clearly see why there is so much buzz surrounding it. Despite minor flaws, The Bone Season is ambitions, intricately crafted and a fantastic read. It is an entity all by it self despite its standard storyline.  The strength of this fantasy novel lies in its multifaceted characters and world building.  Samantha Shannon takes all the different elements of the occult/clairvoyance and combines them to create a story that engages your entire imagination.

Like most dystopian stories, The Bone Season has an oppressive regime and a Protagonist with an extraordinary ability fighting for freedom. Set in the year 2059, clairvoyants are people who have the unique ability to interact with the spirit realm. Paige Mahoney is a clairvoyant dream walker who works in the criminal underworld of Scion London. The use of her unique ability leads to her imprisonment in Oxford, where an otherworldly race is using voyants for their own means. In order to survive Paige needs to escape and find a way to defeat the enemy. Shannon quickly sets up the world of Scion London and then just as quickly changes the game for the characters by introducing the Rephaite. The plot is not fast paced, but moves at a brisk pace leading up to an eventual rebellion and its consequences.

The world building is phenomenal. The Scion world has many intricate details woven into its tapestry. It’s a world filled with the Seven Seals, the seven dials, cohorts, new technology, mind crimes and an assortment of drugs. It’s the details that give this world depth and layers. It’s a world that you can fully immerse yourself in. However the complexity of the world is also its greatest fault. There is so much information being divulged in this book. From the minute you start reading, you are bombarded with facts and information. It does get a little confusing as it takes time to absorb all the intricate details that make up this society. As such there is quite a bit of telling in this book and not a lot of showing. However once I understood the world, the story pulled me in.

Hi everyone. This week I am including all the books that I bought over the last two weeks since I haven't done a Stacking the Shelves post in a while. I also picked up quite a few books at the monthly library book sale.

Thats all for me this week. Let me know what shiny books you guys have received, bought or borrowed.
